The invention of the computer was a long and complex process, in which many scientists and inventors contributed. It depicts the evolution from early calculating devices to modern computers, also mentioning India's first supercomputer Param 8000 and important contributors such as Charles Babbage, Alan Turing and John von Neumann.
- Beginner calculation tools:
- Abacus:
The earliest tool used for calculations for centuries.
Pascaline:
The first mechanical calculator created by Blaise Pascal in 1642.
- Difference Engine and Analytical Engine:
Designed by Charles Babbage in the 19th century, it was an early example of mechanical computers.
- Development of modern computers:
ABC (Atanasoff-Berry computer:
Developed in the 1930s by John Vincent Atanasoff and Clifford Berry, considered the first electronic digital computer.
ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and computer):
In 1946 John Mauchly and J. Created by Presper Eckert, the first general-purpose electronic digital computer.
Transistor:
Invented in 1947 at Bell Labs, which made computers smaller, faster and more reliable.
Integrated circuit (IC):
Developed in the 1950s and 1960s, which made computers even smaller and more powerful by placing multiple transistors on a single chip.
Microprocessor:
Developed by Intel in the 1970s, which integrated all the major functions of a computer on a single chip, leading to the development of personal computers.
India's first computer:
Param 8000: India's first supercomputer, built in 1991 by C-DAC, whose director is Dr. Vijay P. Were Bhatkar.
Main contributors:
Charles Babbage:
Known as" Father of computers".
Alan Turing:
A British mathematician and computer scientist who made significant contributions to the field of Computer Science.
John von Neumann:
A mathematician and physicist, who played an important role in the development of computer architecture.
